Dr. Richard Kenneth Chrystal, of East Boston, passed away peacefully on March 21st at the age of 87.
Richard was born in Boston on November 28,1931 to John E. and Marie (Narda) Chrystal.
At the age of 19, he joined the US Navy serving in the Korean Conflict. After coming home from the war he enrolled in college where he would eventually receive his Doctorate Degree. He spent his career in education serving students in various roles from teacher to professor to school department superintendent. He was a past Superintendent of Saugus Public School, Assistant Superintendent of Quincy Public Schools and late in his career, after retirement, Principal of Savio Prep in East Boston. Students fondly referred to Richard as "Doc Chrystal", friends and family would often call him Kenny. He was a warm-hearted man that had a positive impact of countless students that came across him. He will be missed by all who know him.
Richard is pre-deceased by his sister Georgia Diane Schipani. He is survived by his nieces Lisa Hayes, Donna Schipani and Carol Souza and his great-nieces and nephews Vincent, Nicholas and Kelsey Hayes, April Donohoe and Ann Howell.
Family and friends will honor Dr. Chrystal's life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home on Tuesday, March 26th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 NOON. A funeral service in celebration of Dr. Chrystal's life will be held in the Serenity Chapel of the Memorial Home at 12:00 NOON. Services will conclude with Dr. Chrystal being laid to rest in at Puritain Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
