Joseph A. Chianca, Jr. of East Boston, passed away peacefully on March 15th. Loving husband, father, ‘Papa’, brother, uncle, and nephew.

Joe was born in Chelsea, MA. He attended Christopher Columbus High School in the North End and graduated Class of 1969. Joe proudly enlisted in the Marines (Reservist) for a four year term. Having a deep passion for law enforcement, Joe traveled to Baltimore, Maryland; joined the Baltimore police force as a patrolman and made his way up the ranks retiring 27 years later as a Major.

Joe returned to his home in East Boston to enjoy time with his family. After a short retirement, he accepted a position with Jet Blue as an airport operations crew member and later as the Chairman of the Airport Values Committee which he served with great pride and dedication - LOYALTY ABOVE ALL EXCEPT HONOR.

Joe is survived by his wife, Beth (Oberg) Chianca, cherished daughter, Caitlin Sophie Chianca; treasured grandson, Shawn Joseph; son of the late Joseph A. and Sophie Chianca; godmother and aunt, Lucy Ryan; sister, JoAnn Memmolo and late husband, Richard; brother, Anthony J. Chianca and wife, Jeannette. Loving and adored cousin, uncle, great uncle, friend, and mentor to so many.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 PM - 8 PM at Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, East Boston. Funeral Mass on Friday at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks Street, East Boston followed by a Committal Prayer service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

In lieu of flowers, donations can me made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, either by mail PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or on Joe’s Memorial page.
