IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Joseph L. Ruggiero Sr.

 May 23, 1934 -

June 10, 2011

We sat beside your bedside,

Our hearts were crushed and sore;

We did our best to the end,

'Til we could do no more.

In tears we watched you sinking,

We watched you fade away;

And though our hearts

were breaking,

We knew you could not stay.

You left behind some aching hearts,

That loved you most sincere;

We never shall and never will

Forget you father dear.

Joseph was born in Boston on May 23, 1934 to the late Anthony and Eva (Scrocco) Ruggiero. He attended the Donald McKay and Roxbury Memorial High School. Joseph proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He worked as a union printer for over 40 years ending his career with the City of Boston Printing Plant in the North End of Boston. He was a past member of the Typographical Union for over 50 years, a past member of the Courageous Generation - St. Lazarus Parish, Sons of Italy - Sempre Avanti Lodge 1600, as well as many other senior and community groups.  His love and involvement in the East Boston community was only surpassed by his fervent dedication to his family, who always came 'first'.  Joe dedicated his life to his family and found much pleasure in helping his son, Joseph, establish two successful funeral businesses. His greatest joy however, was his life-long partner 'JoJo', and sharing in the lives of his three grandchildren. Joe experienced every parent's fear in the sudden loss of his beloved son, Michael, at the age of just 34 in 2002. Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday afternoon, June 10 after a most courageous and peaceful week. He was 77 years of age. Joseph made his way to God's Kingdom in the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home where he received the best of care from their most dedicated group of nurses and caregivers. His family will forever be grateful and will never forget them.

"Dad, may you rest in peace and be with your beloved son Michael and both enjoy eternal happiness".
