Buttiglieri - Catina (Abisso) of East Boston passed away on Friday January 2nd, 2009 in her 93rd year.
Beloved wife of the late State Rep Louis Buttiglieri.
Devoted mother of Constantino "Butchie" Buttiglieri and his companion
Dottie Web of East Boston, and Carol LaMattina and her husband Rocco of
Winthrop.
Dear sister of Josephine Milano of Medford, Mary Ferrandi of New
Hampshire, Rocco Abisso of Malden, Rose Gilbert of Littleton, MA and the
late Joseph Abisso.
Cherished grandmother of Lisa Cioto and Salvatore LaMattina. Loving
great-grandmother of Salvatore, Domenic, Giardano, and Gianna Cioto.
Also survived by her many fond nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Ruggiero-Mazzarella Memorial Home,
971 Saratoga Street (Orient Heights) East Boston on Tuesday January 6th at
9:00am,
followed by her Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church,
Brooks Street, East Boston at
10:00am.
Visiting hours are on Monday January 5th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
Catina was born in Boston in 1916 to the late Salvatore and Crusifisa (Farace)
Abisso. Catina was very instrumental in the success and operation of the
restaurant named in her honor - "Mamma Catina" in East
Boston and the North End. She was the oldest member of the Sons of
Italy Sempre Avanti Lodge of East Boston, serving for over 60 years, and
was also a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers union
for over 40 years. Catina passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the East
Pointe Nursing Center in Chelsea surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years of age.
The Memorial Home is handicapped accessible and a
children’s lounge is available. Courtesy valet parking at the front
